JUST IN: INEC declares APC’s Oyebanji winner of Ekiti governorship election as SDP stuns PDP in runner-up battle


The APC Candidate Oyebanji won in Ikere, Emure, Ekiti South West, Ekiti West, Oye, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ikole, Ido-Osi, Ado, Gbonyin, Ekiti East, Moba, Ilejemeje , Ise/Orun and IJERO LGAs.

PDP Candidate Bisi Kolawole won in Efon LGA.

Oyebanji is expected to be issued the certificate of return on Monday, July 21, 2022 and will replace Governor Kayode Fayemi in October 2022.

LOW VOTERS TURN OUT AND VOTE BUYING

The Ekiti Election was according to observes characterised by voterโ€™s apathy as well as vote-buying.

INEC had earlier announced that 988,923 registered voters were expected to participate in the exercise. However, onlyย 363,438 voters were accredited.

Several videos also surfaced online with some voters in the state displaying the cash sum they received at polling units after casting their votes indicating active vote-buying activity during the process.

Officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) also arrested some persons accused of being in charge of vote-buying across several polling units.
