Official: Liverpool sign Darwin Núñez from Benfica for a club-record fee of €75m

“As I say, I’ve watched quite a lot and it’s a very big club and I hope I can give everything that I’ve got in order to help the team.”

The Reds beat Manchester United and Arsenal to the signing of Nunez, who joins on a six-year deal. He is Liverpool’s second signing this summer after Fabio Carvalho joined from Fulham last month.

In terms of earnings, Nunez will earn about £140k per week, the same as recent attackers Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz.

His transfer is subject to international clearance and work permit approval.

He began his career at Uruguayan side Penarol.

He moved to Europe in 2019 for a short stint at Spanish second-division side Almeria, before signing for Benfica in September 2020.
